ANTILA: THE BILLION DOLLAR HOUSE

by

Sometime in 2008, Indian-born petroleum magnate Mukesh Ambani (the man who currently holds the title of the 4th richest person in the world) commissioned the start to building his family home in the middle of Mumbai’s business district. 2 years and a billion dollars later – it is complete. The not-so-modest building, named Antila, stands 27 storys high, boasts more square meters of space than the Palace of Versailles & requires a staff of slightly above 600 people. Other than that, reports indicate that this buidling houses six floors of parking (for approx. 160 vehicles), three helipads with air traffic control centre, elevated outdoor gardens, 50-seat cinema, a clinic, gym, dance studio, swimming pools, a ballroom, guestrooms, a variety of lounges & many many more random rooms they can devise with availability of such ample space. If you aren’t already puzzled by this or maybe you’re trying to rationalize by hoping that this man has an enormous family – he doesn’t. The building is for his family of four.
